On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Human Rights Declaration more than 20 business GC participants publicly announced about their commitment to respect and promotion of human rights
The article about the business statement was published on December 10 in the all-Ukrainian newspaper “Den”. In addition on Saturday, December 13, the full version of Ukrainian business statement on human rights will be published in the weekly newspaper “Dzerkalo tyzhnya”.
Global Compact Business participants addressed public with the following: “United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights that was adopted in 1948 gave a start to establishing international system of human rights protection and promotion. In the observance of the 60th anniversary, GC network participants declare their commitment to this document, its goals and principles and also confirm their readiness to follow them in business practices. Creating guarantees and conditions for exercise of human rights in all spheres of public life is the goal of the government. But businesses and non-governmental organizations could and should play a role. Reflected in the GC, principles in the area of human rights are the basis for all our programs that aim at economic growth and social progress.
Right lo life, fight against discrimination, human dignity protection, rule of law and democracy, freedom to establish trade unions, right to work and adequate social welfare are only few of the main topics that connect human rights protection area with the goals of companies and entrepreneurs in regard to sustainable business development on the basis of CSR. We confirm our readiness to the dialogue and interaction with all the stakeholders with the purpose of increasing business contribution to the development of the country, strengthening human rights in Ukraine and social welfare”.
