On December 19, the official award ceremony for the Partnership for Sustainability Award 2025 took place at the Intercontinental Kyiv hotel.
Each year, the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine hosts this prestigious international award ceremony to recognize remarkable partnership projects led by business, government, and civil society. The submitted projects aimed at supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, contribute to environmental protection, address social and economic challenges, and promote peace. Launched in 2018, the Award has since brought together more than 600 cases of successful partnerships, showcasing examples of sustainable leadership and effective cross-sector collaboration. This year marks the seventh edition of the campaign.
As part of the Award selection process, which ran from May 21 to October 10, 2025, the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine reviewed 150 applications from 22 countries worldwide. A total of 93 projects were shortlisted for the final stage — a record number in the Award’s history. All submitted projects were thoroughly reviewed and evaluated by an independent international jury, including experts from Harvard University, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the World Economic Forum, and the Basel Institute on Governance.
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Tetiana Sakharuk, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine. In her remarks, she highlighted how partnerships enable businesses to scale their impact and mobilize additional capital for national development:
“When times are difficult and the temptation to stop is strong, the very presence of a partner gives us the strength to move forward. It is no coincidence that all countries have included Sustainable Development Goal 17 — Partnership — in their 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. For the seventh year in a row, we have been recognizing companies that consciously choose partnership as a pathway to greater impact. We see how their initiatives reach millions of people, significantly increase effectiveness, and attract additional investment to Ukraine. This year, we are particularly proud of the Award’s expanding global reach: companies from 22 countries submitted their cases for consideration. Through this campaign, we demonstrate the power of partnership to amplify joint efforts and encourage everyone to build strong alliances — because lasting change is strongest when created through partnership.”
Another key opening remark was delivered by Oleksandr Kava, Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine, who emphasized:
“An important part of next year’s draft budget is support for development projects. The vast majority of the projects being financed align with the Sustainable Development Goals for our country. Despite the extremely challenging circumstances we face, these implemented projects meet the ESG parameters we have committed to. This includes infrastructure and transport development, as well as strengthening environmental protection measures — because without this, we will not be able to pass on to our children and grandchildren a modern country that is making the right choices for sustainable development.”
Oleksandra Matviichuk, human rights lawyer, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties, Nobel Peace Prize laureate (2022), and Human Rights Ambassador of the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine, made her address, as followed:
“It is an honor for me to be here and to thank you for your work — first and foremost, as people. Because behind every business and every civil society organization there are people, and that truly matters. As a human rights advocate, I know that when you can no longer rely on legal mechanisms, when the entire international system of peace and security fails, you can still rely on people. Ordinary people do extraordinary things, proving time and again that even in times of profound change — when the system of peace and security is collapsing before our eyes — we still have powerful tools of influence: our own voice and our own stance. And in the end, that is not so little.”
The announcement of the results was preceded by a panel discussion titled “Partnership as a Strategy: Joint Solutions for Sustainable Development,” focused on how partnership-based projects help businesses scale their impact while generating added social value alongside financial returns.
The session was moderated by Oksana Sokolova, Head of the Public Affairs Programs Editorial Office at Starlight News, and host and author of the weekly television program Fakty Tyzhnia on ICTV.
Speakers:
Following the discussion, guests were treated to a live performance by Ivan Tkalenko, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Chief Sergeant, Merited Artist of Ukraine, composer, bandurist, inventor of the electrobandura, and representative of the Cultural Forces. Ivan Tkalenko has been awarded the badges “For the Defense of the Hero City of Kharkiv” and the “Golden Cross.”
Then, invited guests announced the winners and finalists across the following categories: Environmental & Climate Action, Social Change, Good Governance, Ukraine Recovery, Veterans Empowerment, Sustainable Economy & Growth, and Digital Transformation & Innovations.
